Can a Moroccan apply for an Umrah visa alone on Nusuk?

Message Wiki Tours, the guide's publisher

The question usually comes from a son or daughter who books flights online for everything else and wonders why the Umrah has to go through someone. It is a fair question. Saudi Arabia has opened direct online services, and many people assume they now work from every country.

This page sorts out what is published and what is not. It does not say the do-it-yourself route is possible, and it does not say it is impossible: no official text we found settles it for residents of Morocco. It does not compare agencies either. The full set of entry rules for Moroccans is in our main page on Umrah entry rules for Moroccans.

What is Nusuk Umrah?

It is a service of the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, launched in August 2025, that lets pilgrims outside the Kingdom apply for the visa and book their services directly, without an intermediary1. Licensed agents remain an option alongside it1. If you choose one, agenceomra.ma explains how to check a Moroccan agency's licence before you pay.

Nusuk itself is the name of the Saudi platform for pilgrims; Nusuk Umrah is the part of it aimed at people who want to arrange their own trip. The words that come up in this process, from Nusuk Masar to ihram, are explained in the guide's Umrah glossary.

Is Morocco on the list?

Not on any list we could find. The ministry's announcement does not publish the countries that the service covers, and no published list confirms Morocco among them1.

So, for a Moroccan who lives in Morocco, the honest status is “not confirmed”. As of 20 October 2026, we found no official source confirming that such a person can apply for an Umrah visa alone as an individual pilgrim on Nusuk, or get the Saudi tourist eVisa; an approved Umrah provider remains the documented route2.

Some people in Morocco do organise their own trip, according to LesEco, which noted in March 2025 that many Moroccans now prepare their Umrah without an agency, with the Nusuk app making the visa easier to get5. That is a newspaper's observation about a trend. It does not tell you which route those pilgrims used, or whether it would work for your parents.

Before you rely on what a friend or a video says, three checks help:

The sequence

  1. Ask for the official page they used, on a Saudi government site, and open it yourself.
  2. Look at whether that page names the country of residence or the nationality it applies to.
  3. Never hand over a passport or money for an “individual application” without that page.

What about Moroccans living abroad?

Their position can be quite different, because it depends on where they live and on the documents they already hold. Those who can apply for the eVisa, which allows Umrah, include permanent residents of the European Union, North America, Oceania and some Asian countries, and holders of a valid US, UK or Schengen visa, according to the ministry's Umrah guide (edition date not stated)2.

Two limits matter. The tourist eVisa allows Umrah outside the Hajj season, but not Hajj, which needs its own visa, according to The National (2022)7. And the guide describes each applicant's own situation: a son's Belgian residence card describes where he lives, not where his parents in Fès live. How families split these cases is set out in our guide for Moroccans living abroad.

Whatever the route, the hotel comes first. Since 10 June 2025, an Umrah visa is issued only if the accommodation is registered on the Nusuk Masar platform, in a hotel licensed by the Saudi Ministry of Tourism, according to Gulf Business and Khaleej Times, citing the Saudi ministry3.

What the sources do not say yet

  • The list of countries served by Nusuk Umrah. The ministry has not published one that we could find1.
  • Nationality or residence. Our sources do not say whether Nusuk Umrah treats applicants by passport or by country of residence.
  • An official answer for Morocco. As of 20 October 2026, no official source we found confirms or rules out an individual application from Morocco2.
  • The edition date of the ministry's Umrah guide. The guide that lists the eVisa groups does not state when it was published.

What should you do next?

If your parents live in Morocco, read the published Umrah entry rules for Moroccans before choosing anything, and keep an eye on the guide's official calendar, where we record each rule change with the date we checked it. If you live abroad and hold an EU or North American residence, start with the eVisa guide for the diaspora. And if an official Saudi page ever confirms the individual route for Morocco, this page will say so, with the link and the date.

Readers' questions

My cousin says he applied alone from Casablanca. Is he wrong?

We cannot say. As of 20 October 2026, we found no official source confirming that a Moroccan living in Morocco can apply for an Umrah visa alone on Nusuk; going through an approved Umrah provider remains the documented route2. Ask him which official page he used: if it exists, it settles the question better than we can.

Does the eVisa route depend on my nationality or on where I live?

The ministry's guide lists residence and visa situations, not nationalities: permanent residents of the EU, North America, Oceania and some Asian countries, and holders of a valid US, UK or Schengen visa, according to the ministry's Umrah guide (edition date not stated)2. A Moroccan passport holder with one of these statuses is in that group.

Can I book my parents' hotel myself and leave the rest to an agent?

Our sources do not describe split arrangements. What they do say is that an Umrah visa is issued only if the accommodation is registered on Nusuk Masar, according to Gulf Business and Khaleej Times, citing the Saudi ministry3. Whoever files the application will need that hotel record.
